The 1989 model year market the release of the Sport package for shortbed regular cabs, and the Z71 off road package. Only available on K1500s, the Z71 package included skid plates, Bilstein shocks, and Z71 decals. Pickup trucks still remained the only body styles available in the GMT400 platform.
